INTENSITY: Penshoppe S/S 2013

Well,  here it is. My first fashion show.

I never planned on going - it just so happened that I got the free passes when I treated my cousin to some back to school outfits.

Okay, segue first: I happen to like Penshoppe's clothes, impressive celebrity endorsers notwithstanding. Sure, I think they already "won" (at least for me) when they got Ian Somerhalder, but even before that I already have clothes with their tags in my closet which I bought not for the sake of attending fan conferences.

Even so, it was ridiculously easy to create some great outfits for my cousin with what they have in the store. She was my first styling project and I have to say, she looked pretty damned good in the clothes that I picked for her. The colors were bright and young and even the jeans were a perfect fit (she is a size 25, TT__TT). Price was reasonable too. We were happy customers.

Getting the passes were simply a plus.

I'm wearing a Penshoppe reversible top :)

Fast forward a few days later, decked out in our fashion show debut outfits, my other cousin and I sashayed (no, not really) down to the SMX Convention Center for Penshoppe's fashion show for Spring/Summer 2013 called INTENSITY. Its tagline:

“Intellect is a magnitude of INTENSITY, not a magnitude of extensity,” – Arthur Schopenhauer

- Pause here while I Google what this quote means -

Okay, full quote makes more sense for me.
"Intellect is a magnitude of intensity, not a magnitude of extension: which is why in this respect one man can confidently take on ten thousand and a thousand fools do not make one wise man." - Arthur Schopenhauer

I still don't quite get what it means as it pertains to the fashion show or the collection. Does it mean that even though the show doesn't have much fanfare with a binder full of celebrities (get it?), it would be the collection that will speak for itself?

And why am I even ruminating about this?!

Back to the show.

Well, whatever INTENSITY means, the show definitely presented a collection that I am excited to see on their stores soon.

As always, their jackets and sweaters were the stuff people who spend much time in air-conditioners dream of. Their signature varsity jacket is in attendance for the boys, along with sparkly, silvery sweaters for the girls.

I loved the white outfits with the big blue floral prints - on the dress and the pants. Very summer-y.

And speaking of summer - I love the cuts and colors of their retro-styled bathing suits.

Lots of neon, too. Is it not going away yet?

And, even though I'm a girl, I found myself wishing there was a girl-version for some of the guy's clothes. (Also, nice sneaks!)

All in all, great collection. And not at all bad for my first show, right?

Bag Lust

I never quite got how or why people buy those uber expensive bags with names I'm not sure I was even pronouncing correctly. It's just something you sling on your shoulders, something that holds all your stuff together.

Maybe it's when you get older and earn money of your own, or maybe it's when you finally realize the quality of products that you get it. You get the whys of the expensive price tag and the serious case of bag lust comes over you.

And recently, my brand of obsession is Chloé.

Chloé bags have been seen on the arms of famous personalities like Katie Holmes, Reese Whiterspoon, and my personal favorite Rachel Bilson among many others. What I love about their bags is that they look very classic and I'll probably use them for years and years to come. I also love that it's not all in your face with the logo and in a way, discreet.

Here are some of my favorites from their 2012 collection.

WD 001

Got around to sketching again. Since I noticed that I kinda sucked on drawing, I studied some sketches of fashion designers to get a feel of it. Successful or not? Well, practice is definitely needed.

This time I used a sketch pad instead of a notebook (so I can scan them better) and remembered to outline them with a black sign pen.

Scanned the sketch and it was a good thing I did because when I tried to color them using my watercolor pens, the paper didn't hold up and it was a mess.

Ah, yes. Photoshop - my savior.

Eh. The gown is obviously supposed to be white not grey! >.<

Going to do more. I haven't shown this to my friend yet because I don't know if she likes this kind of style or not. Also... nervous! Waaah. It's not as if I'm going to make a career of this, right?

Kids of Bayo August-September 2011 Lookbook

Psst... I'll let you in a little secret of mine.

I shop at the little girl's store.

While I may complain about being vertically-challenged most of the time, there are some advantages to it - like getting the children's discount on rides (true story) and shopping for clothes that are much cheaper than adults'.

So that is why I checked out Kids of Bayo's lookbook for the months of August and September. Even though their clothes are geared towards kids and tweens - they're very fashionable and stylish. I ask for the largest size, of course, and most of the time they have them on stock. And surprise! It fits! Though it makes me wonder just how fast kids are growing up these days... and why didn't they have Cherifer when I was younger(!).

I also love the presentation of their lookbooks. It's so playful!

Kids of Bayo doesn't disappoint. I love the jackets and the striped skirt. Their graphic tees are pretty cute, too.

As with Bayo, all prices and clothes are available at their website.

Here are the rest of the pics:

Pretty Primary Colors For Fall

I'm in love with this picture from BCBGeneration. I love the colors, a spin on the primary colors blue, red, and yellow for fall. The photo is pretty too with the light and everything - the hair, the lipstick, the dotted scarves... Love, love, love!

(It is too bad, though, that we can't really see the dress design. LOL!)

Testing out a few things...

I finally bought a new printer which has a built-in scanner - which I wanted for the longest time. I am planning to scan all my docs to lessen the mountain of paper currently residing at my condo. And, well, there's a lot of fun to be had with scanners.

So after testing the printing capabilities (which will be used by my cousin as she does her thesis), I set off to scan some of my drawings of my friend's wedding dress. It's been a while since I drew since my hands are usually on the mouse and keyboard nowadays, so pardon the drawing fail.

It was really a surprise when my college friend suddenly assigned me to design a wedding dress for her. No, I am not a fashion design student. I just drew a lot during college, most often during classes I admit, and I think we had this unspoken promise that I will design their dresses. It's kind of cool, but also kind of pressuring.

Here are some my preliminary sketches while I was hanging around the office today. (Yeah, I went to work today - like for 3 hours LOL)

I don't even know what she's going to pick or what I even want for her. I just want to draw pretty dresses. Hee.

Bayo August-September 2011 Lookbook

I've become quite a Bayo fan the recent months. I love their pretty dresses. They're simple but still packs a punch whenever I wear them.

For their pre-holiday collection (I think - don't really know much about fashion stuff), they're switching to fall colors and there are a lot of black, brown, and red in this lookbook. No arguments from me, since I happen to love those colors all year round too.

This is my favorite outfit from the group. I love the blazer and the casual chic-ness of the outfit. But most of all, I love the red sandals. I want, I want, I want.

Here are the rest of the pictures from their lookbook. The outfits' individual prices are there at their website where you can purchase them there too.

D.I.Y. Winged Shoes

Dara fans would already be familiar with her favorite winged shoes that were part of Jeremy Scott's line for Adidas. I've coveted the same shoe, partly because Dara has it and mostly because they are so freaking cool.

Dara sporting the winged shoes since the Fire days

Admittedly, I am not a sneaker kind of girl, but I found myself going to Adidas stores here in the Philippines trying to find the shoe and not having any luck so far.

Well, problem solved. Err... Somewhat. I happened to stumble upon this awesome idea from I Am Momma - Hear Me Roar. Check out how she made a simple pair of sneakers into (da-dan!) SUPERHERO WINGED SHOES!

Now, I want to go make these for my nieces and nephews for Christmas!

Maybe I'll pass on the winged shoes and leave it to the young folks. I would settle for the winged hoodies - which Dara also wore. (I'm not Dara obsessed - much - they're just really cool, I tell you!)

Dara me2day: October 5, 2010

If I don't find them in stores soon... maybe I'll just have to... make it?

Must. Learn. How. To. Use. Sewing. Machine!

Film & Fashion: Simply Irresistible

This is a bit of an oldie (sort of), relatively unknown, and critically lambasted movie... But I don't care. I love this film. Let me tell you the reasons why:
  1. It stars Sarah Michelle Gellar aka Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
  2. It has mouth-watering food.
  3. Romance.
  4. Magic.
  5. You guessed it - clothes.
The person responsible for SMG's wardrobe was Todd Oldham, who I fondly remember from MTV's House of Style which aired sometime during the '90s.

Happily ever after *sighs*

Amanda's style is quirky, cute, and eclectic. I love her outfit when she goes to visit Tom at his workplace to buy some plates. I also love it how she picks different mismatching sets, surprising him with her unconventional choice. I totally would've picked different sets too.

She picks this outfit with the help of her male best friend who informs her that when men touch their belt, they think about sex. Tom doesn't wear belts, but this outfit does make him fiddle with his suspender.

I saw this gorgeous maxi dress from ASOS and thought that it had the similar look. Just put on some layered necklaces and an interesting textured coat (or a denim jacket!) to copy Amanda's style!
